has named Georgia Cartwright as the company’s newest stagecoach driver
and the third woman to hold the position, according to “Buffalo Bruce”
Gerhard, Stagecoach Program manager for Wells Fargo. Cartwright joins only 22
people who have driven Wells Fargo stagecoaches since the program’s inception
in the late 1950s.
Cartwright, a resident of Benbrook, Texas, will drive a Wells Fargo-branded stagecoach at parades, company functions, fund raisers, trade shows, conventions and other special events throughout Texas.
“I was raised around horses and could ride before I could walk. Becoming a Wells Fargo stagecoach driver was my dream job,” Cartwright said. “My love for horses and deep appreciation for the history behind Wells Fargo’s stagecoaches made the job a natural fit.”
For Cartwright, being a stagecoach driver isn’t just a job - it’s a family affair. Cartwright and her husband own a ranch with 30 horses, 16 of which are parade-ready. Her husband, Alan, has been driving rigs for 35 years and has been on contract with Wells Fargo with his own rig since 1995. If that’s not enough, Cartwright’s 6-year-old daughter, mother-in-law and dog also participate in the stagecoach events when possible.
Cartwright joined Wells Fargo in 1996 as an operations analyst, and then took a Phone Bank position with fewer hours to give her more time to assist her husband with stagecoach events.
Cartwright joins Virginia Fellingham and Charlene Lane, both of California, as the only women to drive stagecoaches for Wells Fargo. Fellingham was Wells Fargo’s second all-time drive
Wells Fargo owns 20 stagecoach replicas, and the stagecoaches and teams of horses are at 12 ranches throughout the U.S. There are four in California, plus ranches in Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Minnesota - and two each in Colorado and Texas.
Wells Fargo & Company is a diversified financial services company with $391 billion in assets, providing banking, insurance, investments, mortgage and consumer finance from more than 5,800 stores and the Internet (wellsfargo.com) across North America and elsewhere internationally.
