ABILENE, TEXAS – A wide range of participants gathered for the Stock
Horse of Texas (SHOT) Spring Gathering, making the largest SHOT show to
date. A record 215 entries, including 57 collegiate riders from seven
different colleges exhibited in the two-day show. The SHOT Clinic was
once again very popular, and featured a demonstration of “Cowboy
Dressage” by founding member Jack Brainard. A large crowd enjoyed the
Hamburger Feed Friday evening, sponsored by Total Equine.
The collegiate division of SHOT continues to grow,
with members from Texas Tech University, Tarleton State University,
West Texas A&M University, Clarendon College, Laramie County
Community College, Weatherford College and Eastern New Mexico
University all competing in the show.
A
large crowd was on hand at the SHOT Clinic, including a demonstration
by Jack Brainard.
Next on the calendar, SHOT heads to Liberty, Texas,
for a clinic, and then a SHOT Show in San Angelo.
This year two shows will be co-sanctioned with AQHA
as Versatility Ranch Horse competitions. Shows in San Antonio on June
17-18, and in Vernon, September 9-10 will offer both a traditional SHOT
show in addition to an AQHA-approved Versatility Ranch Horse show.

in the area, the host entity is currently seeking dates to hold an
additional event later in the year. Auditors are welcome during
